Did some more experimentation with the waterspot technique, this time using a light colour over darker colours. I think it would have looked nicer had I used a better, more opaque white, but sadly this was all I had.
I tried out hairspray to see if it would work, and it does, just as well as hand sanitizer. Seems that as long as it is alcohol based it will work.
